802.11pwned

802.11pwned, or 802.11p, is not a new technology based off of 802.11 wireless networking. It's a dedication to hardening security of the protocol by auditing, exploiting and publishing findings to force vendors to update technology rather than the popular model of "security by obscurity", where vulnerabilities are patched with a "routine" update.

This blog is dedicated to doing this. With many off the shelf hardware and freely available software, you are able to audit your own wireless network to harden it from attacks from the inside and outside.

Wireless networking is not the most secure technology in the world. Wireless packets are constantly being broadcasted in the air and are susceptible to being captured by malicious or curious people. If you want security - unplug your wireless router and go wired Ethernet.

Mushroom Cantenna + Tripod

Last night, I was playing around with the cantenna I built yesterday from the plastic mushroom container and had in mind to use this tripod/music stand with the cantenna. The results were great. You will need to poke holds in the rear of your cantenna to run bread bag ties or zip ties through it so you can secure it to a tripod, pole, etc.

This is my final product. It worked very well and I'm about to start uploading screen shots of airmon-ng displaying various signal strengths when I turned my invention a certain way. I didn't really get any inspiration from online. I had the idea in my head because I remembered I had this music stand in storage, with no real use for it. I don't play music anymore, so I don't really need a music stand. What I like about it the most is that it's so lightweight and so portable.

It's also very adjustable. I could make it 12"-18" tall or extend it all the way up to 60" to put on a balcony. I switched the glossy white side of the wifi card to face the foil, then signals started to increase once I did that! You have to deal with a lot of trial and error before you find something that works for you. I'm going to play with a coffee cantenna later on, once I purchase a metal coffee can and use up all the coffee inside ;-)
